The day is at war with the night. In a photosynthetic society in which every need is answered by the all-powerful sun, the night is anathema – outlawed in fact. And not only do citizens of Garden City observe a strict curfew, their freedoms are curtailed in many different ways. But they willingly sacrifice their freedom for an iron-clad security. They willingly submit to the authority of the KAIN Sniper Strike Force, responsible for maintaining a near-zero percent crime rate. The KAIN Snipers, perched high in the sky atop skyscrapers and flower towers, dispense justice in the form of lethal beams of heavenly-bright light to anyone caught breaking any law. Average law-abiding Garden Citizens live in awe and terror of the KAIN Snipers. But there are those who long for darkness. There are those willing to pay the ultimate price for the night.
